SIMON ADAMS NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, SALES & MARKETING FOR TV GUIDE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
Adams, Previously the Deputy Managing Director for Gemstar-TV Guide’s European Consumer Electronics Division, Will Lead the Company’s Worldwide CE Sales & Marketing Strategies
Los Angeles, CA (August 2, 2005) - Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (Nasdaq: GMST), the leading provider of television information and guidance, has named Simon Adams senior vice president, Sales and Marketing for the TV Guide Consumer Electronics division. TV Guide Consumer Electronics develops and markets interactive program guides and Plus Code recording systems for incorporation into consumer electronics products, including digital televisions, digital video recorders, and DVD recorders. Mr. Adams will report to Mike McKee, chief operating officer of TV Guide Consumer Electronics.
In this newly-created role, Mr. Adams will be the key Gemstar-TV Guide liaison for consumer electronics companies worldwide, working with them to incorporate Gemstar-TV Guide's interactive program guides (IPGs) and VCR Plus+ technology into their product lines. He will develop and coordinate sales and marketing strategies across the Consumer Electronics division's regional offices in the United States, Europe and Asia, and will have a strategic development role in structuring the division's core research and development roadmap.
Mr. Adams has been the Deputy Managing Director since 2003 for Gemstar-TV Guide's consumer electronics business in Europe, where the Company's IPG is marketed as GUIDE Plus+. Mr. Adams had also previously spent four years at Gemstar-TV Guide from 1995-1999 as director of Consumer Electronics for the Company's European division. As Deputy Managing Director he was responsible for adding value across the company's product portfolio. He managed the European licensees for GUIDE Plus+, working to maximize potential for roll out of new technologies across Europe's consumer electronics and cable and satellite customer base. Mr. Adams also grew the CE division's strategic relationships with major European publication groups and oversaw sales management for Gemstar-TV Guide's Infomedia and Showview properties.
Between 1999 and 2003, Mr. Adams was the managing partner of a United Kingdom-based telecommunications start-up that developed switch less telecommunications technology for residential and business users. Mr. Adams raised funding and developed the commercial strategy for the business.
Mr. Adams has also held marketing roles with the Hi-Fi company, Celestion International, as well as Philips Consumer Electronics. He began his career in 1987 as a Marketing Manager at Thomson Consumer Electronics.
Mr. Adams graduated from The City University in London, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
